Is it possible to explain freedom? Or can we only breathe it and accept its mystery? Freedom as courage, tenacity. Inner. Outer. Freedom-wings-freedom-shield, freedom as a shelter. The freedom to think, to openly denounce the injustice, to move or to stay, to heal, to love, to participate in the present time. Freedom is a right: when, in which circumstances? The freedom to express oneself, to make use of our talents, to hope, to believe, to ask ourselves: what makes us truly free? Freedom from fears, from ghosts, from wars. If it was a sound or a scent, what would it be? Is freedom a nostalgia? If it was a color, which one? Warm or cold? A crowded square or loneliness? What is it, what does freedom really mean?
We asked this question to Photography, which has often challenged commonly accepted storytelling to elaborate a new representation of the reality.
The fourth edition of the Venice Photo Lab, organized by LAB77 APS, offers a wide-ranging study on the theme through vibrant images that capture, excite, make you think. The exhibition displays the work of sixty artists from around the world, some of them being internationally awarded, among which Paolo Verzone and Eric Lafforgue.
The exhibition set-up has been curated by UNISVE – art restoration laboratory and it is the perfect example of how contrasting elements can perfectly combine, both from a conceptual and an aesthetical point of view. In fact, the modernity of contemporary photography harmonizes with the fine craftsmanship of artisans and restorers. In this way, the visitor can get to know some great exponents of Photography while visiting a wonderful Venetian space.
